Student Practice Groups
Student Practice Groups are open to those wishing to improve their mediation skills and connect with other like-minded mediation students dedicated to practice, improvement and excellence. Students must have completed mediation training. Practice Group fees are structured to ensure all students can participate. Contact us for more info - increasing mediator competency is a passion of ours!
June 21 - We continued our conversation about emotions and moved to looking at the connection between emotions and interests as well as our own self-management. The schedule has been adjusted as per your feedback about weekend sessions and summer months - we will have 2 weekday sessions in July and take a break for August to allow all of us to maximize summer fun!
May 23 - We ran through some 'what if' scenarios in our discussion today which gave the opportunity for our tiny group (!) to have some great insight into the importance of building understanding between parents when calculating child support - it is not always straightforward. Two role players have volunteered for the next session - we are in need of a mediator!
May 10 - Students had an opportunity to role play a challenging Phase I and have some discussion about complexities in Phase I. It was a fantastic opportunity for some 'a-ha' moments!
May 8 - We had a very engaging group discussion about the purpose of Phase I and our engagement of clients throughout. Again, we only scratched the surface and will add another session to continue this discussion and allow for some role play.
April 28 - We had the start of an in-depth discussion into the role emotions play in mediation and the opportunities for understanding that can come from emotional expression. This was a very engaging session with a lot of participation! We will continue this discussion in a future session.
April 25 - From reflecting on our own biases to authenticity in our mediation practice, the group had an incredible conversation about our own self-awareness and self-management.
April 21 - We had an awesome start to the first mediation role play as well as some great discussion around meeting with and building comfort for your clients. This group will continue to work with this role play in another session and build from where they left off today.
April 17 - What an absolutely wonderful practice session we had this morning! We were a small group of 5 that explored a variety of positional statements and had the opportunity to frame those into SDM agenda items. A lot of great sharing, reflection and insight came from within the group and I am excited for our next session. Three participants have committed to the role play next session (one mediator and 2 role players). If anyone else is interested in mediating, please let me know and we can coordinate a second group. Otherwise, you are welcome to join as student observers.
