All services are provided in a private, confidential setting.

Our experienced Mediators are trained in different approaches, including interest-based and transformative mediation and negotiation approaches.

Mediation is a private, facilitated discussion among parties in dispute.  The Mediator's role is to assist the parties to stay on topic and move through their discussions in a focused and productive manner.  Mediation can last anywhere from a few hours to a few days depending on the complexity of the issues and the parties' situation.

In a mediation the parties choose the topics for discussion and retain the decision making authority.  One of the benefits of mediation is that the options from which the parties choose to resolve their conflict are endless.  The parties have the power to create and choose their own solutions to the conflict.  The options are only limited by the parties' imagination and their sense of what is fair in the situation.

The resolutions flowing from mediation are not typically legally binding.  After mediation, the parties have the option to confirm their resolutions through a Court Order or the creation of a legally binding agreement.

Arbitration services are also available through Michelle Simpson, a lawyer with 30 years of experience in corporate/commercial law in respect of both Canadian and international business issues.

In contrast to Mediators, Arbitrators do make decisions about the issues brought before the Arbitrator.  The parties and the Arbitrator decide on the process for the arbitration and have complete control over cost and time efficiencies that can be built into the arbitration process.  The Arbitrator's decision is binding and once filed with the Court can be enforced as a Court Order.

Disputes are often position based; at RHouse we encourage parties to build understanding and work towards solutions that best meet everyone's needs whether it be through negotiation, mediation or arbitration.
